Quite Worth a Poet’s Dream

10 Gold Trophies, 2 Silver Trophies, 2 Bronze Trophies, 8 Honorable Mentions

Written September, 2011 (119 lines, 4 pages)

Excerpts:

“Puddles and Colors… .
the universe is not anonymous
nor ignorant
nor transparent –
feel the topaz splashing!
Sometimes poets dip in blueness distant
oil-perched slick
like foam along the sea
in layers deep
where breath of moon gets lost in song
crying fog along its womb.
We write. We write of tribulation
and lack no words describing it.”

“Beyond the fractured patterned quartz of life
poets bring belief beyond the labyrinth
draw ink across each page
each finger across each string”

Description

I’ve been working quite some time on this stylistic approach combining a blend of uses from several master poets into a fusion with my own indulgences and unique influences. Many readers enjoy my style… others think it too impractical. I find it utterly challenging because it is organic, a free-flow of what the mind-eye-hand creates… like fashioning a piece of pottery on a wheel… it happens in the moment. Then there is the editing and reediting to ‘tweak’ the framework to a plausible finish without being overly obscure, vague, or struggled. Practice is the mother of all invention, ‘trial and error’ with great enthusiasm, and it utilizes internal rhyme, stop-phrases, drop-phrases, cross-hatchings… a bit of Ginsberg flair, a mixture of syntactical constructions, a gestation of interpretable lines and couplets which strive for minute accuracy or at times, end-stoppings that produce the sense-of-sense, not sense itself. The varied repetitions are utilized with emphasis on refrains, but not an overdose of reiteration.

To earn the attention of the audience… the words must invite the theme to speak to us. I find it would be hard not to believe in the secrets of the universe or the depths of an ocean.., or that of the deepest recesses of thought and imagination. If we didn’t have secrets yet to be discovered, we would be called God. We are only finite humans searching for discovery.

“We can never really know where poetry will lead us, it takes us by the hand into the senses of our hopings, our failings, our diatribes.. .. the imaginings of lives or distinctive dreams, what and where – we can never be sure. Let it find us.”

Writing poetry is evasive, and its elusiveness is truly like running water that our hands can feel but cannot fully grasp… we can touch it, be temporarily satisfied by our thirst being quenched by it…but must always return. If I be drowned in it… I would become the dream.

Poets don’t look like poets they don’t dress like them
either, they don’t walk like them, they don’t talk like them
seldom think like them, they don’t spew prose between bites
of corn flakes at the breakfast table …how does a poet make love ? What does
a true poet dream of ? Poets hold life in a paper cup – csmmoms

Your beautiful complex poem filled literature and charm of your words compelled in the beauty of your message with the impressionist
designed to give the idea of that beauty within it’s colours of perpetualism an artist as best. Blossomwriter

A piece in which the reveal of new depths and lines that trace further horizons are
uncovered within each read as approached with fresh eyes and open mind…Your
final lines are wonderful to wrap this work…but in the phrase “in their
way” a smile emerges…for Poets do seem a breed apart.

This creative and thoughtful share is a wonderfully expansive view inside. It serves as an open cupboard display of all manner reveal in levels of massive skill, talent, and voice that Poets employ in the crafting! Talents’ warehouse bulging nook and cranny, basement to ceiling
….our ink stores, and inspiration for the safe keeping of gifts, and all elements harnessed in creating. Spur and Spark ever at ready…we await such moments when new lines are borne~ Wizard moves!!

Incredibly beautiful piece of writing – a pure delight to read – uplifting and a real tonic to the soul. Very happy I came across this. Thank you.  … shadowhand

Excellent. You describe poets so mellifluously here. Throughout the piece, you use color so well: dew in aqua-blue, blueness distant, topaz splashing, emerald ooze, sun would burn, gold and red, etc. Your use of metaphor and simile near perfect, and your line breaks divine. This has repetition, alliteration, everything. Tres Magnifique

‘Tis a great place indeed to bring a friend and quite worth the dream to be sure. You have covered every base that comes to this readers mind and more. I found this epic writing totally engrossing, it had me from the start, wondering where it would take me next, where it would leave me. An education in a most pleasant form. I dip my cap to you sir. Randaloph

This is by far the best poem I have ever read, ever. Colors, and gems, give such an intense description of your poem. And what do you choose to write about.. poetry? Simply, amazing. Yes we penned the strongest strengths, and weakest links. We love our thoughts, too much, don’t we? Very beautifully written. Congratulations. Thanks for making my evening a little bit better.  Detoxygen

This was really excellent. Thank you for the meal!   Actionboy12

You must be off the Earth spreading such beautiful words. Wonderful, just wonderful! Incredibly beautiful piece of writing – a pure delight to read – uplifting and a real tonic to the soul. Very happy I came across this. Thank you.  lilsilent

Nicely penned. I like this. Dwayne Scofield

You’ve given us something there. To be re-read. Thank you. Nisroc777

I don’t even know exactly what to say.  Not one word wasted, pristine imagery that fluctuates between blues, beauty and celebration.  It’s a roller coaster ride and I am dizzy.  Going to list this one!  You are SO good!    Take THAT!  KatieHepburn

Very passionate and inspiring poetic piece  A. lawson

Truly, I was just thinking on this today: Poets are true Lovers…They believe in the healing powers of Beauty. They take passion and philosophy as Faith…Colour becomes disciples of meaning. You vigorously bring these concepts to verse and in turn, praise the poet in all of us.     Blue Harrison

Impressive pen!!! You took the poet’s heart and mind and beautifully paint both in gilded, bleeding verses. Stunning! This one is very strong and elegant. Excellent job with this one, nice flow. ecrivain01

You have done a tremendous job in this beautifully written poem of yours it has a great flow and rhythm to it. It was a pleasure to read.

Tis one I cherish.   Martha Gettle

Wow. Forget mere stones, you’ve covered all the elements in this epic to inspiration and its works. You’ve ground the various stones to paint and used them to shade a masterpiece. Thank you for placing this painting. LynRasa

“But sometimes poets dip in blueness distant” This sentence touched me the most. You wrote the truth and it shall speak to those who have a poetic heart … I can see why this is your favorites. Priya Ramesh

Nice write! Thank you for respecting the verb tense criterion. I really enjoyed the flow of this poem and its particular structure that brings it an energy fit for the message. The choice of words is very well thought out, a pleasure for the brain. Axelle Black

Another well woven poem filled with your Poet’s wisdom throughout its penning in “Quite Worth a Poet’s Dream” which I fully enjoyed reading aloud and shall again and again.   Mel Patterson Mooney

A beautifully written poem. kittyhutton

Thank you for sharing that with me. I’m going to focus on my book now. I will check back for your new works regularly. I admire your talents,   C Strayed Too

Beautiful, I loved it. eapoe12

Wow! What an amazing poem. It is quite inspirational to me. It’s so truly poetic in every word and phrase. Congratulations on such a brilliant write. Francine 1

So many wonderful verses within, sir.  Did you use a particular form or was this just your creativity? Blessings always.  Those who live the art fully agree. Mrs Campbell

Awesome write !!!!  I love love loved this…. I picked a fave line straight up which was  “Perfect elegance, like pretty flowers contained within”… I really thought the whole piece had beautiful rhythmic flow and was absolutely stunning… WOWI love the layout of this. Very interesting. I love the lines “the universe is not anonymous, nor ignorant, nor transparent” RainbowBlessings ~Barbie

Michael Thomas: Expansive and lovely

This is simply amazing. As a writer, I could relate on every level. That Rilke quote is even on my profile page. You’ve got excellent phrasing throughout, and it’s grammatically written very well. Beautiful. Raven Girl

Wow! I’m blown away by this! This work is a transcendental journey, a conduit to another dimension, another plane of existence. Way cool, dude! Tomahawk

Wonderful work… I am in love with your metaphor and very much to relate to all you said. Keep this up, this stuff right from the soul. Ramblin Wind

Just because we write does not make us a poet. Poetry is something that we search for in every noun and verb. Every so often we write something of merit. This is one of those cases. Soliloquy-

Speechless!   liquidmindforever

ah this is a mighty fine poetic piece penned –  perhaps – perhaps we are all anonymous though, when we die  we will find out all the answers or not as the case may be – spill ink and twist me into the crazy shape chasingtheday

Is this worthy of a comment? I can’t believe you ask this question, the right question is: is my comment worthy? Long, and I usually lose my attention but I found your piece of art amazing. specially the images and the theme of the whole poem.

Between our ears lies the universe endless, the whole part of watery matter of which we use very little but still it is enough to create beautiful things or ugly if one would have it be. Poetry lives there in each and every one of us though not everyone is in tune to the wonderful emotions and poetic expression that a true poet can create. On the subject of poetry I feel you may have outdone yourself here for this piece is better than just great, you’re indeed in a place of excellence here and you better believe this poem is damn good. spideracer

I would say that our world will be completely different if poets would create him, that poetic world would have all goodness, magic and would be filled with colours of everything that poets believe. There is a such a beauty in poet’s heart and such glorious  freedom in his soul, poets are indeed amazement and unique gifted artists Wonderful write, keep on!!

This is possibly the best, the most prolific poem about poets I’ve ever seen written on & offsite. One of those works that I have no qualms of admitting ‘awe-worthy’. This is just thoughtfully & powerfully woven.

Gran trabajo mi amigo. Ink on. Spanish Dancer

Great imagery here    ♥ Miss Kay

Sometimes one line of poetry epitomises a feeling, Wow, yes, I felt that way, this line sums it up exactly. I could never have written it, but God I admire it. This is a Great Poem, I wish my comment could do it justice. Brilliant!   Conway29

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, this is worthy of unending praise…!  Truly beautiful and unique.   Debbysmiles

I have admired your writing and your expression of thought for some time, but this poem absolutely blew me away and I have it bookmarked to read again and again. There are times when I feel like a fraud even attempting to write and call the result poetry, but once in a blue moon, some utterance of mine resembles a flash of poetry and I live for those flashes.   Flame

First of all, I like your formatting. I have always been a believer in all things good and true, all things beneficial and enlightening…intimacy and secrets make for a strong pairing, to be sure. Courage is not an easy thing to hold or to hold onto, when confronted by the vagaries and cruelties of survival, but it is definitely an essential element, a necessary hand to hang onto. Innocence is something that can easily be lost but is ever so hard to find again, yet it can be done, if one has tenacity and/or a hard enough head…I liked the line “the universe is not anonymous”, even though it often feels as though it is — and that we are, as small and insignificant as we appear to be…and while there are moments when we do lack in words, there are other instances when no language can begin to describe the depths of our feelings, no matter how many languages one might speak…This piece has an immensity to it that no single comment can begin to address, as many thoughts and directions as it inspires. WandaLeaBrayton

Well worth gold. I normally don’t have the attention span to read a piece of work this long, but I found myself anticipating each stanza. Your creativity and gift for imagery can’t be rivaled. I enjoyed every stanza as it evolved into the next. Your word choices were perfect for the piece. Great work poet.   Victoria Riddle

This is simply fantastic. Love it.  poetdee

It has never been better said. One is tempted to respond with facile hyperbole to the poem and the postscript of the author’s notes, but I will not limit this with silly modifiers no matter how grandiloquent I can find. This stands upon its intrinsic value, become its own standard of excellence. Some poems are worth visiting more than once. This one rewards with every reading there is little more that I can say to express my appreciation for it!   Peripatetic

To capture the intangible and flesh it out….Gold worthy and beyond!

two-lullabyhaven

I could not finish reading this as I got choked up and started crying for it’s beauty.   Shanon Norman

I love some of the metaphors you have used in your poem. I think that only a poet can dream like a poet does and your poem illustrates this very well.   Ladysphinx

Your words come alive with “ancient knowledge” sprawling eloquently across realms near and far, touching the reader with wisdom from pure universal fingers that reach deep and plunge the heart’s muscles, contracting and massaging your message into body and soul. Brilliant poetry my friend. Your alliterations are breathing, living and loving. The tribes will follow you to shores bequeathed with jeweled conversations of your lovely poetry. Magnificent! Masterpiece! Thanks for sharing your brilliant work!    ChisaoTigress

Oh yes… This is way, way too much…It is every tilled hope in fields of realization and echoes of breadths in every manifestation…It is rainbow ink on multilayered parchment with a grasp, a single glimpse of the Heart of Creation and the essence of The Great Architect…for we were born to make dreams real and help everyone to believe they also can achieve such a daunting task…yet as poets we dare, walk, bleed, die and become reborn and still have a whole lot left to be said… as we re-invent ourselves…Exquisite, my brother…  MystiqueWizzard

To be a poet… I understand now. Thank you for sharing this with me

I truly enjoyed this poem. Knowbody

Excellent imagery and word choices here. It is quite lyrical Susanne Donoghue

Your work reminds me of Walt Whitman.  Well done.  The cascading imagery slides down the mountain in streams and rivulets. sand painter

You have a very distinct, poetic voice and I always enjoy your poetry. I know I have remarked on the musicality of your poetry already, it is of course excellent. I also am very fond of the wording in this piece. There is a sense of peace and serenity pervading the lines I find greatly intriguing. Wonderfully written, captivating poem you have penned here!   Shadowhand

You have touched feelings and emotions that I have not come close to even being able to express and for that I thank you for sharing this wonderful gift.  Arcticbreeze

Wow! You have a real charm with the pen. Excellent poetry skills embedded in this write. I loved the metaphors and similes you used and the powerful visuals thus created. Furthermore, I found this poem to have a meditative feel to it. That is really wonderful. A reader will enjoy reading this over and over again, each time to discover a new beauty within it. I really really love this poem!!!!!!!!!!    sputnikoi

This has a very elevated, chant-like feel to it and an exuberance that convinces us the poet has found firm footing in the rock face of the climb.   ea

A wonderful piece of writing with wisdom, I enjoyed reading this as I am sure will need to read over and over to fully understand the wisdom written in this piece…thank you, a must to bookmark.  Thank you kindly!!    Coco369

True, you do paint your words like as if you used a brush. very painting indeed.. and the pictures used was beautiful, as if at times I was there walking along trough the rhyme.. very strong painting indeed.  My secret world

We write of tribulation, and lack no words to describe it.

My gem to keep, from a write of depth. Love the movement, color and overall feel to this awesome write! I don’t know where to start!

metaphor, phrasing, imagery. Outstanding!   GotLilt

This is simply gorgeous… only rob

A happenstance perhaps to come by to choose to read this piece on poetry…Encompassing a world of thoughts, and imagery like visiting another planet with it’s own world of color, existence…The world of the poet…Amazing descriptive imagery that astounds the readers…Your mind is alive with your imagination put to verse so creatively….My most astounding read in months…Full of expression…AMAZINGLY Magnificent! Bookmarking! Pen on poet!  I could copy all I have read for beauty and significance but these two stanzas are remarkable! Amen to the words…”poetry, the open flesh of humanity!!!”   BRAVO, POET!  Rose Angel

This is awesome. Loved the meter, the beliefs we poets believe in! Another great piece.  Poesing

So true..like a rivers wave your words were  flowing along the message in a wonderful shape as well..this is beautiful poem coming from the depth of your heart..love the flow and the meaning you brought.. wonderful indeed… many thanks for sharing it. PrabhuDayal Khattar

Ah  yes, it felt as if you whispered this to me in my ear!! great write…. from the eyes of seraphims, poised in innocence   waiting to be written, wet with dew in aqua-blue NICE!!   Serenitypoetry

Very well written and speaks so well of how poets see and write. DreamHeartStrings

Amazing! The elaborate and meticulous explanation of who a poet is, what they write about….. Carefully blend with this poetic world. I love this alot. Nice work!  Emmanuel Isuku

I loved it, just had this very tranquil stream of consciousness flow that I’ve always appreciated in poetry.  The formatting was great as well, definitely a medium I have not worked with enough in my life though I may now be inspired to do so.  I felt towards the end that it may have begun to drag at some point, though it didn’t detract much from the poem as a whole.  Keep it up!  mz.confused

“But sometimes poets drip in blueness distant” Each stanza an outstanding romp through your brain poet. Each could almost stand as a separate poetic entity. Just well thought, worded and themed. BRAVO!   Macsword

Krishna Suresh

What a tribute. You summarized what we feel through a poetry. Thankyou… the last stanza, my favorite.

I really relate to this poem! It was awesome. Definitely worthy of commenting.   midnightflight

Wow…damn, this poem could inspire and jump start the heart of a poet laying dead in their nightshade covered grave! favorite lines in your poem, I thought were masterful and totally breathless;

“beyond the fractured pattern of life –

to give belief beyond the labyrinth,”

to pronounce their language

to renounce the silence. .. .

Let their sound pierce a thousand years!

and that last entire ending paragraph in my opinion was  written in finest gold! Masterpiece of fine poetry, woven in imagery and textures, heavenly and hell yeah, exquisite! DAMN! Stunning write, you should be really proud and smiling with moonglow! WAY TO WRITE! ears2hearyou

Yes, we are indeed all this and more, a place in the poetic realm where all can pen a line or two in hopes of moving the reader if only for one magnificent moment, well expressed within your piece that bears sharp and graphic imagery that transports the reader into the scene you so aptly describe.  Good flow, rhythm coupled with a unique turn of phrase, that enable the lines to wrap effortlessly.  The theme is developed nicely and of course has much relatable content to make us sigh.. solid penning… we, as poets, shall bring our words forth, with hopefulness into the light of man, to burst with rays of amber, glistening upon the flesh of him……and let our ink spill and fill… and to remain for the whole of it. Nicole Dummett

Yes, Poets DO BELIEVE!!!! This is a wonderfully crafted poem. I love your form and your choice of words. Excellent Job.  csoulharbor
